About this tool

Bates numbering gives every page in a set of documents a unique, sequential identifier, so pages can be referenced precisely. Doing it by hand across many files — and keeping a record of which numbers went where — is slow and error-prone.

This tool is being built to apply sequential Bates numbers across your PDF documents and generate an index of the numbered documents.

Useful for

  • Legal professionals and paralegals
  • Compliance and records teams

Your files and privacy

Before launch, this section will state exactly where your files are processed — in your browser or on our servers — and how long, if at all, anything is kept. We prefer in-browser processing wherever it’s practical.

PuffinKit never changes your original files. See our privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

Will it be free?

PuffinKit is free-first: the aim is that ordinary tasks can be completed for free, without creating an account. If this tool has any limits, they will be stated on this page before you upload anything — never after you have done the work.

Where will my files be processed?

This will be stated clearly on this page before the tool launches: whether files are processed in your browser or on our servers, and how long, if at all, anything is kept.

Can I suggest a feature or ask a question about it?

Yes, please do. Your input helps shape the tool before it launches. Contact us with what you need it to handle.
